About Falls Wines
Falls Vineyard lies in the heart of the Central Tablelands of NSW, near Cowra, just four kilometres from Canowindra. It is bushranger country, where the infamous Ben Hall and his gang used to run.
The vineyard has a hundred hectares planted to vine, with Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Semillon, and Shiraz being the varietals of choice.
The estate was established in 1996 and they produce small quantities of really superb wines. Their Fields of Gold Chardonnay and Classic Semillon won much critical acclaim from every quarter and their Squatter’s Ghost Shiraz was recognised by the industry as one of the best NSW red wines in many years.
Robert Black is the winemaker who has been responsible for the recent range of wines and their subsequent success. He was a finalist in the Young Australian Winemaker awards and has a degree in oenology. He has worked for several noted labels and he is a highly valued member of the community and especially to Falls Wines.
All the wines at Falls Wines are made from the fruit grown on their own vines. Their passion and expertise help bring out the very best from their superior fruit and it shows in the finished product.
The vineyard is situated in picturesque surroundings, with a long history of gold rushes, bushrangers, fossils and even ghosts! It is a magnet for visitors from all over the world, who come to learn of the tales of derring-do, taste the great wines and enjoy the warmth and hospitality of their unique guest house.
The Falls Guesthouse itself has much historic significance, since it was one of the earliest freehold land grants to a pardoned convict, John Grant. It was his grandson, Thomas Grant, who built the guesthouse in 1910, when, according to legend, the original cottage was burned to the ground by bushranger, Ben Hall, after his three-day hold-up of Canowindra township.
Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Semillon and Shiraz are available at the Cellar Door.
