About Windowrie Estate

Windowrie Estate can be found on Vaux Street, Cowra, New South Wales. They are producers of outstanding regional wines. The estate is owned and operated by David and Wizz O'Dea whose background was a major factor in their coming together.

David earned his degree in Agriculture at Hawkesbury University in 1961. Wizz was brought up on a farm near the Hunter Valley. At one point their paths crossed and they were married in 1964. At first, they grew cereal crops on the land, but in the 1980s, they changed course and began planting vines.

It was a striking change for them and one that proved to be fortuitous. Their fortunes changed very much for the better and from small beginnings, they now have built the first winery in the region and employ up to 45 casual workers and 14 people full time.

The Odea’s have three children: Stephen, or ‘Steph’ as he is known; Dimity, or ‘Doe’; and Jason.

Steph completed a Bachelor of Building Degree at Canberra University and has utilised his hard-earned skills to re-build The Mill in Cowra, which operates as a retail outlet for their wines.

Doe completed Wine Marketing at Roseworthy University in Adelaide and lived for part of her course in Amsterdam. It was here where she studied the Dutch wine market and developed a great understanding of the international wine market.

Jason completed a viticulture degree at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga in New South Wales in 1994, and has worked at Windowrie since then.

The family believe that the potential of Cowra as a grape-growing region could only be realised by producing and processing fruit from the local area. Their state-of-the-art winery can now process up to 6,000 tonnes of grapes.

Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Riesling, Sangiovese, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Shiraz, Tempranillo and Verdelho are available at their Cellar Door.
