About Bidgeebong Wines Australia

The Bidgeebong Winery benefits from the location of three nearby wine regions that supply a diverse range of wine grapes to the company. Planting continues to expand as they source these great fruits, all leading to an ever-increasing standard of quality.

The Gundagai, Hilltops and Tumbarumba wine regions at the foot of Australia's highest mountain, Mt Kosciuszko, are all within easy driving distance to deliver their precious loads of grapes to Bidgeebong Winery. All these wine regions have increased their planting in greater and great amounts in the past five years, which is a healthy indication of the state of the industry in this area.

More and more development of small and medium sized wineries is taking place in New South Wales, with specialisation in specific varieties, regional styles and brands being the trend. Cool-climate to medium-climate varieties of Merlot, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Mediterranean varietals are on the increase. So much so is this burst of energy apparent that it can be claimed that ‘Nowhere in Australia, perhaps even the world, can match the grape growing - and hence the winemaking - flexibility of the 'Bidgeebong Triangle'.

The 'Bidgeebong Triangle' has three quite distinct micro-climates, each with its own characteristics. Tumbarumba and Hilltops at Young have alpine climates, which makes grape growing problematical, but success at this altitude is all the sweeter for it. Gundagai is located at a much lower altitude and enjoys a milder and warmer climate. Thus the grape growing at this lower level is much more consistent and reliable.

All three of these areas are reasonably close to Wagga Wagga, which the regional centre and Australia's largest inland town, and also where the Bidgeebong Winery is located.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Touriga, Riesling, Sangiovese, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Shiraz, Tempranillo and Verdelho are the varieties available at their Cellar Door. For those visitors who want to sample the country’s premium cool-climate wines, the Bidgeebong Winery is the place to go.
