About Cassegrain Wines
Cassegrain Wines is owned by John and Eva Cassegrain and is located on Fernbank Creek Road, Port Macquarie and has become something of a tourist attraction, based where it is on the beautiful northern New South Wales coast. It lies just off the Pacific Highway between Sydney and Brisbane and is increasingly popular as a destination for wine lovers.
The estate is surrounded by sweeping hills and delightful rose gardens, which were created by John’s wife, Eva. It also features a wonderful picnic area, with barbecue facilities and children’s playground. The formal settings of the gardens are often used for weddings and corporate functions.
The Cellar Door is both modern and roomy and provides a comfortable environment in which to sample their range of wines. Visitors can even watch the staff in the vineyard hard at work, since the open plan style of the estate allows for such freedom. They also have a range of local products from shirts and corkscrews, to olives, soaps, nuts and jams.
They hold wine and music festivals from time to time, including ‘A Day on the Green.’ These wonderful occasions are held in the natural amphitheatre that encompasses the vineyard. Keep your eyes open for these special events; they are well worth the visit.
The Ça Marche Restaurant is available for visitors to Cassegrain Wines, where the whole range of the Cassegrain portfolio can be purchased. It is next to the Cellar Door and has a team of chefs who specialise in modern Australian cuisine. This great restaurant was recently awarded Best New Restaurant in northern NSW.
The original vineyard was planted to vine in 1980 and played a major part in the revival of the wine industry in the Hastings River Region. The area is known for the production of soft and elegant table wines.
Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chambourcin, Chardonnay, Grenache, Malbec, Merlot, Durif, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Sangiovese, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Shiraz, Tempranillo, Traminer and Verdelho are all available at their Cellar Door.
