About Sherwood Estate Wines
Situated on Gowings Hill Road, Sherwood, in the beautiful Macleay Valley on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, lies the boutique vineyard known as Sherwood Estate Wines. The Cellar Door and Fine Blends Restaurant are open seven days a week and are a delight to visit and experience the great wines and food on offer.
Bruce and Marina Compton are the proprietors of Sherwood Estate Wines, who, along with bother David Rountree, their passion for wine, fine food and music is shared. Their combined interests led them to buy Sherwood Estate Wines from John and Helen Ross in September, 2005. And thus a new era came into being in the Hastings River Wine Region.
Bruce and Marina are totally committed to their profession and indeed live and work on the property. They run the vineyard, the Cellar Door and Fine Blends Restaurant. The renovated the whole series of buildings and turned it into completely unique boutique vineyard.
The Fine Blends Restaurant had become famous as a tourist destination and is known for its fine cuisine and superb wines, all of which can be enjoyed in a relaxed country setting. They are producers of unique quality wines and provide an excellent standard of service.
The team at their Cellar Door, all of whom have special individual skills, have all been hand-picked and trained in wine appreciation, wine history and customer service to make sure that the customer receives the very best of service.
Their combined skills and expertise in their viticultural practices ensure that the fruit they produce is of the highest quality. The Forty hectare estate has 7.75 hectares planted to vine on rolling hills, with fertile soils, rich with limestone deposits. The soils range from clay loam, alluvial to red and basalt soils on the higher ground, all of which produces wines of great character and regional specialties.
Cabernet Franc, Chambourcin, Chardonnay and Verdelho are the varieties available at their Cellar Door.
