About De Bortoli Hunter Valley Winery
De Bortoli Wines, one of Australia's largest private companies, own vineyards throughout New South Wales and Victoria which produce a wide range of premium wines, including red and white varietal wines, sparkling wines, fortified wines and their great sweet wine, Noble One Botrytis Semillon.
De Bortoli and environmental responsibility could very well be synonyms. The whole ethos of their winemaking operation is geared towards ensuring that the health of the land and its environs are preserved and cared for, not only for this generation, but for many generations to come. They are the leading lights in ‘eco-friendly’ practices and are to be commended.
De Bortoli continually develop better management and methods in key areas such as ‘water recycling, waste management, traffic and noise containment, visual impacts, flora and fauna and air quality management. The ultimate aim is to be a Zero Waste Winery.’ These and many other initiatives are the result of twin thrusts of energy and determination from Managing Director Darren De Bortoli and Operations Manager Rob Glastonbury
They are innovators in packaging; indeed, De Bortoli is a signatory to the National Packaging Covenant. They are participants in Greenhouse Challenge Plus. De Bortoli is also involved with the Australian Wine Industry Stewardship Programme.
The De Bortoli Hunter Valley Winery was established in 1928 by Vittorio & Giuseppina De Bortoli, then passed to their son, Deen De Bortoli, who expanded it. Now, the third generation has the responsibility of the winery and they have lifted the standard of winemaking even higher.
The combined aim of the De Bortoli family is to create the finest wines, while loving the land from which the vines grow. Wine lovers around the world and throughout Australia would certainly agree that they have achieved their aim.
Chardonnay, Grenache, Marsanne, Mataro, Merlot, Nero d'Avola, Roussanne, Semillon, Shiraz, Verdelho, Vermentino and Viognier are among the wonderful wines on offer at the Cellar Door.
