About Elsmore's Caprera Grove
Bindy and Chris Elsmore established Elsmore’s Caprera Grove, situated at Broke Fordwich, in the Hunter Valley, in 1995 and have gained a great reputation for producing award-winning wines of wonderful quality and distinction.
They ’found some very empty paddocks with excellent, sandy loam soil on the banks of the Wollombi Brook’ and with the help of their children, Peri and Bart, created the vineyard that you see today. They laid the irrigation, planted the vines and trained them.
In all, 10 acres of grapes were planted, which were comprised thus: six acres of Chardonnay, two of Shiraz and two of Verdelho. The result of these plantings produced small quantities of superb premium wines, including: Bartolomeo Botrytis Dessert Wine, Chardonnay, Peregrinus Methode Champenoise, Shiraz and Verdelho.
Bindy and Chris are the work horses of the vineyard and carry out all the task associated with viticulture. They have a policy to use a natural approach to the wine production and at the same time produce the finest wines possible.
Chris Elsmore is a retired Commodore of the Australian Navy, but he and Bindy now ‘sail’ the paddocks and travel the world in search of knowledge about the wine industry. They are both passionate about what they do and the results show this passion. Their boutique wines are very special and have won many prestigious awards.
The vineyard is situated on the ‘tranquil side’ of the Hunter Valley at Broke Fordwich, overlooked by the Brokenback Ranges. The old convict-built road from Sydney north leads to Broke, a tiny village with a ‘continental feel.’ Yengo National Park is close by, where you can see wildlife and ancient Aboriginal Caves.
Bindy and Chris Elsmore are well known for their warmth and friendliness and will welcome you with open arms at their Cellar Door, where you can taste all the delights they have on offer.
