About Gartelmann Hunter Estate
The Gartelmann Hunter Estate is located at Lovedale Road,
Lovedale in the Lower Hunter Valley. This wonderful Cellar Door outlet was built in 1997 and awarded the 1999 Lower Hunter Civic Design Award for excellence in the design of smaller scale non-residential development.
The main objective was that the building should blend well with the local environment, whilst still being a distinctive working commercial concern. The ‘country feel’ was achieved by the use of grey Colorbond corrugated sheeting to blend in with the encompassing gum trees, timber windows and doors and a pitched roof. A curved lintel graces the double entry doors, which open to a brick path that leads to outbuildings and toilet facilities.
Inside, the building is filled with natural light and has a cathedral-style ceiling, which is lined with straw batts. Large beams and black iron plates complete the picture, which is one of relaxed elegance and the perfect place to taste and talk about wines.
The building is situated beside a small pond and a large deck extending from the Cellar Door out to the pond, where visitors can enjoy the local bird life, while tasting the great wines on offer.
The cellar door is open to the public 7 days per week. The wines of Gartelmann are classic Hunter Valley varieties of Semillon and Shiraz Chardonnay, Merlot and Verdelho. They also produce a wonderful dessert wine called Gartelmann Dessert Semillon ‘Ambrosia’, which is a particular favourite with the visitors.
As well as the great wines to be tasted and bought at The Gartelmann Hunter Estate they also have Extra Virgin Olive Oil, marinated olives, caramelised balsamic vinegar and olive oil soap, produced from genuine Hunter Valley Olive Oil.
So, when you come to the Hunter Valley, make sure to place The Gartelmann Hunter Estate high on your list of vineyards to visit.
