About Aberdeen Wine Company

To have a wine that goes with beef is the driving force behind the Aberdeen Wine Company. It colours everything they do, from the careful selection of the grapes from top wine regions across Victoria and South Australia, the measured blending, to the expert handling at the winery.

This blending of grapes from these premium wine regions allows them to create wines of exceptional quality and consistency. They are able to capture the very best attributes and varietal specialties from these regions.

The label, Angus the Bull, arose from an idea that Hamish MacGowan had; one that bugged him until he was forced to do something about it. So, in 2003, he and the family established the Aberdeen Wine Company and the idea turned into reality.

This new direction released a tornado of energy and this unstoppable force was turned into producing the wine of choice to fit in with the dream of providing the perfect accompaniment to beef: Cabernet Sauvignon.

A search was soon on to locate the best parcels from Victoria and South Australia. Once having found the right sources, they set about a clever marketing package as they developed the wine style for which they had long had in mind. The 2000 vintage of the newly-created label ‘The Bull’ was launched and it was a hit from the start.

The Aberdeen Wine Company is a small winery, but operates in a similar manner to the big boys in that what was once the exclusive domain of the big operators – the Multi-regional blending – but Hamish took on the challenge. He saw no reason why he, as a small winemaker, could not make his wines as he saw fit. It turned out to be a master stroke.

The Cabernet Sauvignon they produce at The Aberdeen Wine Company is indeed the perfect accompaniment to a meal with beef.

Their Cabernet Sauvignon in all its vintages can be found on their web site.
