About Bell River Estate

The Bell River Estate, owned by Margherita and Keith Reinhard, is located fifteen kilometres south of Wellington on the Mitchell Highway, about five hours from Sydney and an hour from Orange or Dubbo.

The estate was first known as Markeita Cellars. They specialised in making quality fortified wines, such as ports and sherries; and red wine, mostly Shiraz. The estate runs to forty acres and has eight of those under vine. Six of those acres are planted to Muscat, one acre to Shiraz and one acre to Waltham Cross table grapes.

The weather conditions in the area are ideal for the growing of the best quality grapes, with wet springs, long hot summers and cool winters being the norm. Under these favourable conditions the Bell River Estate prospered under the guidance of the Reinhard leadership.

When the Reinhards retired, they sold the business to Sandra and Mick Banks, who changed the name to the Bell River Estate. They made few changes, but added more table wines to their portfolio. They sell their wines at their Cellar Door and at local pubs, clubs and restaurants. But the bulk of what they grow they sell to many other wineries in New South Wales.

Bell River Estate sits happily amidst the main wine tourist route for visitors to the region. The Hunter Valley and Mudgee are within easy driving distance, as is Orange and Dubbo. Other attractions for visitors including Dubbo Zoo, Wellington Caves, Burrendong Dam, for fishing and boating, and many restaurants, hotels and motels.

The Bell River Estate intends to keep making their well-established fortified wine, which has made them famous, as well as adding to the stock with tables wines to suit the local clientele.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Muscat Hamburg, Shiraz and Verdelho are the varieties available at their Cellar Door. Take a trip out west and have a great time, while tasting some wonderful wines.
