First Creek Wines is a coming together of four great wine minds who, in 1997, combined their considerable resources to establish a business in the Hunter Valley wine region.

Between them, they have over sixty years experience in making premium wines in the Hunter, where the most awards of any region have been won. The team is led by Greg Silkman and all have won many awards for making superior wines.

They use the latest technology, combined with traditional methods in their winemaking. These Hunter Valley traditions bring out all the regional qualities for which the area is famous, both in Australia and overseas.

Jim Chatto was engaged as a consultant in the crafting of their wines, joining up with Greg Silkman, Gary Reed and Ray Donald. Jim selects the very best fruit from respected vineyards in the region, where quality is assured. The four winemakers have as their slogan: ‘Varietal Definition - Regional Expression’.

The Hunter Semillon is a remarkable wine style, among the best in the world, with classic flavours and great length. It is a complex, distinctive wine that ages well.

The Semillon that is made at First Creek Wines comes from a single vineyard planted in 1970 on one of the best alluvial sites in the Hunter Valley. While it is young it presents with classic restrained flavours, but will age well and develop into a wine of extreme complexity, yet remain elegant and have great character and balance.

Jim Chatto, for whom the labels were named, began his winemaking career in the Hunter valley, before travelling far and wide to gain further knowledge in vineyard and winery management.
