About Lazy River Estate
The Lazy River Estate is located on Old Dubbo Road, Dubbo, New South Wales. It is a combination of vineyard, Cellar Door, cafe and function centre. It was established in 1997 and is a producer of superb fruit for the creation of premium wine.
Briar Ridge in the Hunter Valley make their wines under contract. The Lazy River Estate used to sell their wines at local bottle shops and restaurants, and through their Wine Club. But now they have built a very classy Cellar Door, cafe and function centre that is second-to-none in the Dubbo area.
The proprietors place great store on customer service and satisfaction. Their elegant venue and the very high level of service leave the guests with happy memories of their visit.
The Lazy River Estate is a versatile establishment; it has around 10, 000 vines planted at the vineyard, they make premium red wine vinegar and grow Australian native flowers for table decorations.
A special interior wall highlights the history and culture of the local area. They also commissioned Lewis Burns, who is an Aboriginal local artist, to design their Hippo Beach wine labels. Their other label is Squatters Chair, which depicts the site of the first settlement in Dubbo. There is also a rock across the road from the winery that commemorates this.
Their main function room is called the Dulhunty Room, in honour of Robert Dulhunty, who was the first squatter and founder of Dubbo. The grave of Dulhunty is at the Pioneer Cemetery and can be seen from the Cellar Door.
There is also a fresh water well, known as Dulhunty’s Well, which has been restored and is a prominent feature on the outside deck area.
Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Semillon and Shiraz are the wines available at their Cellar Door. If you listen closely, you might even hear the roar of lions coming from the nearby Dubbo Zoo.
