About Red Earth Estate Vineyard

Red Earth Estate Wines are located on Camp Road, Dubbo, in New South Wales. They are makers of award-winning hot climate wines, based in the wine region known as the Macquarie Valley.

The vineyard is owned and operated by Ken and Christine Borchardt, who bought the 8.4 hectare property in 2000. They chose this location because of its clean surroundings, the hot, dry air, ideal soils for grape growing and the fact that the vineyard had a northerly aspect with a gentle slope, giving it good drainage.

It also helped that the property lies on the Western Plains Tourist Circuit, which makes it doubly attractive as a tourist magnet.

The Red Earth Estate Vineyard make all their wines from fruit grown on the estate. The vines are carefully monitored throughout the growing season and the wine is made in their own winery.

They have been in operation now for over eight years and the quality of the fruit and their wines is such that they crush around 110 tonnes of grapes, which they turn into wine for other vineyards on a contract basis. They keep a percentage back, of course, for their own wines.

The winery is actually capable of crushing 250 tonnes of fruit per vintage, but they have decided to keep to a small production in order to be able to maintain control and to deliver the quality they desire.

Their Cellar Door is a haven for wine lovers and tourists. Sample their superb wines, or try a platter of their delicious cheeses, dried fruits and regional produce in the tasting room, or on the lawn.

Families are especially welcome. They have spacious and well-kept grounds to wander around in, or for the kids to run around. The vineyard is just a stone’s throw away from Western Plains Zoo and the perfect way to finish off the day.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Muscat Petits Grains, Torronts, Riesling, Shiraz and Verdelho are all available at their Cellar Door.
