About Richfield Vineyard
Richfield Vineyard is located on Bonshaw Road, Tenterfield, in New South Wales. They are makers of wonderful wines. The vineyard operates on a combination of old world French winemaking traditions and new Australian technology. Richfield Vineyard was established by Bernard Forey, a Frenchman, in the early 1990s and the first vintage came in 2000.
It was Bernard Forey who gathered together a group of winemakers who were of like mind and they bought the land on which the vineyard now lies, near Tenterfield in New South Wales. Leading viticulturalist, Doctor Richard Smart’s advice on the location was invaluable as the group searched for the ideal site. The great team gained even more expertise when John Cassegrain, an award-winning Australian winemaker, joined the group in 2006.
The area is known as the New England region and the premium wines produced here are gaining much acclaim. All of Richfield Vineyard wines are made from grapes grown on their own vineyard.
The vineyard is located at the road junction outside of Tenterfield. The thirty-hectare ‘pocket of gold’, as they call it, is an exceptional parcel of land situated in the foothills of the Great Diving Range in the New England wine-growing region. The wines produced here are of superb quality and include: Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Ruby Cabernet, Semillon, Shiraz and Verdelho.
The vineyard lies at an altitude of 700 metres above sea level, with a temperate climate and conditions very similar to regions in France, such as Burgundy. The soil is granite-rich and is perfect for growing top quality grapes.
Dr Richard Smart, who played a very important part in the setting up of the vineyard, predicted that ‘Richfield will set the benchmark for vineyard development in the region.’ Their winemaker, John Cassegrain, does all in his powers to make this prediction come true.
Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Semillon, Shiraz and Verdelho are the wines available at their Cellar door.
