About Stockmans Ridge Wines

Stockman’s Ridge Wines are located on Limekilns Road, Bathurst, New South Wales. It is situated on the western side of the world heritage Blue Mountains, a mere three hour’s drive from Sydney.

The estate has a mixture of industries operating alongside each other, including the growing of wine, a cherry orchard and Angus beef cattle farm, among many others. Indeed, the estate is a veritable Garden of Eden. They also grow peaches, nectarines, plums, apricots, pomegranates, almonds, hazelnuts and walnuts. If that were not enough, they also have bee hives producing pure natural honey!

In November to December they open up their Orchard to individuals and groups to ‘Pick Your Own Cherries!’ To keep abreast of the seasonal conditions for this event, it is best to contact them before coming.

The vineyard is planted to Albariño, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Tempranillo grapes.

The area is known as ‘explorer country’, since it was settled only 27 years after the ‘First Fleeters’ arrived in Australia. It was from Bathurst that many intrepid explorations of the interior set out.

The proprietors have an all-encompassing approach to their management of the land. Nothing is squandered and their aim is to reach a harmonious intermingling of all their activities and to re-use all forms of waste; the whole is the prefect example of what is meant by ‘environmentally friendly’.

They will soon have a Cellar Door, which they plan to create in the Federation style, with a big open wood fireplace inside and fragrant gardens outside, but until it is built, wine lovers will have to order their wonderful wines from their web site.

They bought the property, with its magnificent views, in 2002. The following year, they planted the first of the trial trees, which thrived and so they decided to expand. In 2004, they planted the first Shiraz vines and the rest of the fruit trees. They all succeeded beyond expectations.

Albariño, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Tempranillo are available on their web site.
