About Australian Old Vine Wine

Australian Old Vine Wine, located at Farm 271, Rossetto Road, Beelbangera, is a boutique family winery that produces premium quality wines from some of Australia’s oldest vines.

Elio and Marie Alban are the proprietors, whose mutual aim is to continue to grow the very best quality grapes and make wines that are rich in flavour and have all the unique regional characteristics. They also have a policy of producing low yield vines in order to enhance the quality of the fruit: a true case of quality over quantity.

The intention at Australian Old Vine Wine is to integrate old vines from other premium grape growing regions in Australia, with the view of creating truly unique wine, and at the same time securing their longevity.

The grapes on the fifty-year-old vines are allowed to grow naturally with a minimum of watering and are picked at their prime. Naturally-occurring grasses grow between the rows and are mown to develop an eco system that attracts earthworms, which in turn aerate the soil and help fertilise it. The vines are hand-pruned and hand-picked and no fertilizers or pesticides are used.

The Shiraz was sourced from low-yielding old vines that are hand-pruned and hand-picked. It has proved to be an exceptional wine, full of flavour and will cellar well. It was made by using traditional methods in open fermenters and basket pressed, then matured in French and American oak barrels for 12 months.

Their Chardonnay is fresh and ripe with tropical fruit aromas. It has subtle suggestions of oak, with delicate, aromatic ripe peach and melon flavours, a textured creaminess and a keen acid finish.

All their wines benefit from the careful viticultural preparation and are a credit to the whole team at Australian Old Vine Wine.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Chambourcin, Chardonnay, Merlot, Semillon and Shiraz are the varieties to be sampled at their Cellar door.
