About Casella Wines

The Casella family have been involved in winemaking for almost 190 years, beginning in Italy and then, from 1965, in Australia. Filippo and Maria Casella came to these shores in the 1950s and after a period of hard work, they bought a farm in Yenda, New South Wales, in 1965.

At first, the grapes they grew were shipped off to other wineries, then, in 1969, they decided to establish their own winery and all their considerable skills were put to very good use.

The vineyard is located on Wakley Road, Yenda, New South Wales. Their three sons manage the day-to-day operations, with John as Managing Director and Winemaker, Joe, as Australian Sales Director and Marcello, Director and Vineyard Manager. Filippo’s grandson, Phillip, joined the business as assistant winemaker and public relations executive and is the sixth generation Casella to work the vines.

Alan Kennett joined them in 2002 as chief winemaker. Alan is well known in the industry and has worked at some of the top wineries in Australia.

Casella Wines have enjoyed noteworthy success with their export programme, beginning in 2000 with their famous [yellow tail]®.brand. The winery in the Riverina has been in operation since 1969 and the growth of exports is astounding. They are now major exporters to Europe, Asia, the UK, USA and Canada. This growth also continues in Australia.

Their flagship brand [yellow tail]® has in fact become the most successful launch of an Australian wine brand in the history of the Australian wine industry.

They use state-of-the-art equipment and techniques in their vineyards and in their wine production. This is complimented with a solid infrastructure that allows Casella Wines to stay on top of the market. It is a great Australian success story.

Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Colombard, Grenache, Malbec, Marsanne, Mataro, Merlot, Caverdella, Durif, Dolcetto, Petit Verdot, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Sangiovese, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Shiraz, Tempranillo, Traminer, Verdelho and Viognier are the vast range of wines available at their Cellar Door.
