About Nugan Estate

The Nugan Estate winery is located at Kidman Way, Willbriggie, thirty kilometres south of Griffith, in the Riverina wine district. It is a vineyard that embraces the old traditions, while using the most modern technologies to grow the vines and make the wines. They have a 10,000-tonne crush capacity winery and also have several olive groves on the property.

There are actually five vineyards that make up Nugan Estate. They are: Frasca’s Lane Vineyard, King Valley, Victoria; McLaren Parish Vineyard, McLaren Vale, South Australia; Manuka Grove Vineyard, Riverina, New South Wales’; Cookoothama Vineyard, Darlington Point, Riverina, New South Wales; and Talinga Park Vineyard, Riverina, New South Wales

This makes for very versatile use of regional varieties in the blending. They have chosen these vineyards in Australia’s finest wine growing regions for very good reasons. In particular, the ability to draw on the particular qualities of each region in order to obtain the very best fruit with which to make their wines.

All the vineyards are located in the best micro-climates and are drip irrigated. They also have a very skilled viticultural team, who combine their knowledge and experience to grow the highest quality fruit.

Daren Owers is the chief winemaker and, although he is relatively young, he has tons of experience and knowledge and is respected throughout the wine industry. He has accumulated many trophies from around the world and was also the 2004 Wine Society’s Young Wine Maker of the Year (Member Choice). He manages all the Nugan Estate’s labels and is keen to continue making top quality wines with premium fruit from their five vineyards.

They have plans to complete by 2010 a Tuscan style visitor’s centre. It will contain conference facilities, restaurant, vaulted barrel room and cellar door and will be a great draw card for visitors to the region.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Durif, Ruby Cabernet, Petit Verdot, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Sangiovese, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Shiraz and Verdelho are available at their Cellar Door.
