About Crooked River Wines
Crooked River Wines is situated on rich volcanic alluvial soil, in Gerringong, NSW. It lies near the coast and has a climate that is ideal for the growing of high quality grapes.
The estate was a dairy farm for over one hundred years, which left the soil rich and generous. The vineyards is located in Willow Vale, just three kilometres from the ocean and benefits from a mild climate which produces softness to their red and white wines.
Their output runs to 120,000 bottles a year and includes a wide range of varietals and four ports. Their speciality is their Chardonnay White Port. All the wines are made in their own winery from grapes grown on the estate. The bottling, too, is all done at Crooked River Estate.
Visitors to their restaurant will enjoy some of the best view of any vineyard in Australia. It has mountain scenery, ocean views, rolling green pastures, black and white dairy cows and the vineyard itself.
The fruit is picked with the greatest of care and pressed by using a soft computer airbag to extract the juices. These gentle practices, together with the tireless efforts of the staff, all contribute to the production of soft wines that have become increasingly popular with the wine-loving public.
The Crooked River Winery is a family-owned-and-operated concern as is their Crooked River Winery Café. The winery was completed in 2001 and has a capacity of 280,000 litres of stainless steel fermentation and storage tanks and 70,000 litres of oak barrels.
In 2005-06, Crooked River produced twenty-four outstanding wines and four high quality ports. 100,000 bottles of premium quality red and white wines were produced in this vintage.
Cabernet Sauvignon, Chambourcin, Chardonnay, Arneis, Albarino, Zinfandel, Riesling, Sangiovese, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Shiraz and Verdelho are among the many varietals to be sampled and purchased at their Cellar Door.
