About Kladis Estate Wines
Kladis Estate Wines is located at Wandandian near Jervis Bay, Sussex Inlet and the St Georges Basin on the NSW Shoalhaven Coast. Jim and Niki Kladis are the proprietors and are dedicated to producing high quality wines.
Jim was aware that the newly-planted vines would produce fruit after two years, but the quality he was seeking would not emerge for at least five years and thus did not allow the grapes to mature until that time had elapsed. He wanted the vines to struggle a little in order to deepen their roots and be strong for the future tasks ahead of them.
All the wines at Kladis Estate are made from the grapes grown in their own vineyard and include such varieties as: Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Grenache, Merlot, Muscadelle, Shiraz and Verdelho.
Jim and Niki use very careful viticulture practices in their endeavours to produce top quality fruit. Their methods include drip irrigation, planting of fine grasses between rows, canopy management and crop thinning. This, together with the expertise of their winemaker, Steve Dodd, who was taken on in 2004, has proved to be a very successful combination. The wines display wonderfully intense varietal flavour and rich colour.
Jim and Niki have now expanded their operations to other famous wine growing regions; The Hunter Valley and the Adelaide Hills. They did this because they realised that some varietals grew better in those regions than at the Shoalhaven. They also wanted to give their clients a much broader scope and choice of superior wines and now they are able to offer this to the loyal customers.
Steve Dodd has played a major part in the tremendous success of Kladis Estate Wines and has helped them to gain a five-star winery rating in September 2007 by James Halliday and also to win International Gold and Silver Medals in the AWC Vienna, the second largest wine competition in the world.
Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Grenache, Merlot, Muscadelle, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, Traminer and Verdelho are available at their Cellar Door.
