About Mount Ashby Estate

Mount Ashby Estate can be found on Nowra Road, Moss Vale in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. It is a boutique vineyard which produces excellent Chardonnay, Merlot and Pinot Gris.

Chris and Sally Harvey (nee Beresford) bought Mirrabooka, one of the oldest dairy farms in the Southern Highlands and part of the original Throsby grant of land near Moss Vale. It lies on the north-facing slopes of Mount Ashby and chosen for the similarity to the Burgundy region in terms of climate and topography.

They first planted Merlot and Pinot Gris, as they saw these varieties as being the most suitable for the region. Later, they also planted Chardonnay. They also have dairy cattle on the property and one of the largest private plantations of gingko in Australia.

Their Cellar Door incorporates the relocated Bowral Produce Store and is now used to restore provincial antique furniture. It also houses the historic Clydesdale stables.

They offer a complete range of table wines and some special selections, such as a wonderful Botrytis Pinot Gris and a Petit Rouge, which is a light red blend of summer wine made from Merlot and Chardonnay. They also have cheese on sale, produced from their own cattle stock and an adjoining property.
The architectural feel to the property is a happy blend of French provincial and early Australian and sits well with their involvement in the importation and restoration of French antique furniture. The Cellar Door features many fine examples of their furniture.

The vineyard gets its name from as far back in time as 1066, when Baron de la Zouche was given a grant of land in Leistershire for services rendered in the Battle of Hastings. He married an Ashby and soon built Ashby Castle near the town of de la Zouche in Leistershire to honour her.

At their Cellar Door visitors may sample and purchase from their range of Chardonnay, Merlot and Pinot Gris,
