About Cody's

John and Kaye Cody established Cody’s in 1995 as a hobby! The couple were initially drawn to the Ballandean area by both the charm and heritage of the region but it was the potential for growing grapes and winemaking that clinched the deal. Now, they have seen their dream become a reality and their passion has been rewarded with a string of awards for their wine, including plaudits from the Australian Small Winemakers and the Royal Queensland Wine Awards.

Initially, 65 hectares were purchased and Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz grapes were planted on a single hectare. Ten years later, the winery has achieved considerable success.

High-quality handcrafted wines are the order of the day for Cody’s and this is overseen by Chief Winemaker, Adam Chapman, with the wine made under contract at the Sirromet Winery at Mount Cotton, Brisbane. The full potential of the quality fruits used is maximised by having the wines matured in French and American oak. Each vintage is also supplemented with the judicious purchase of small quantities of grapes from leading growers in the immediate area.

A visit to Cody’s offers as little or as much hospitality as a guest desires. Ranging from the district’s finest coffees to the gourmet delights of the lunch menu and a rich variety of Mediterranean platters.

Naturally, all this is supplemented with their wide range of wines: 2002 Cabernet Merlot, 2002 Shiraz, 2003 Cabernet Merlot, 2003 Shiraz, 2004 Shiraz, 2004 Cabernet Merlot, 2005 Cabernet Merlot, 2005 Shiraz, 2005 Tempranillo Shiraz, 2006 Merlot Cabernet, 2006 Shiraz, 2006 Tempranillo and 2004 Shiraz Rose.

Take note that Cody’s have sold their cafe on the New England Highway and have moved the cellar door back to Zambelli Road. They are open at weekends from 10am to 4pm.
