About Golden Grove Estate
The combination of an altitude of 820m and a cool summer climate makes the Golden Grove Estate Vineyard and Winery the ideal location for growing many classic grape varieties and wine production.
Located in the highlands of the Ballandean Valley, the estate was first settled in 1946 by Mario and Nita Costanzia who initially grew grapes for sale at the local fresh fruit market. As the commercial wine industry blossomed, the planting of classic wine grape varieties began.
The estate was then taken over by the couple’s son, Sam, who, along with his wife Grace became sole owners. They opened cellar doors for business in 1991 and put their son, Raymond, who graduated from Charles Stuart University, Wagga Wagga, in the chief winemaking role.
The Golden Grove Estate consists of 40 acres of classic grapes planted in a combination type soil made up of decomposed granite and trap rock loam. The grapes include: Black Muscat, Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet, Semillon, Chardonnay, Durif, Tempranillo, Barbera, Malbec, Sauvignon/Blanc, Cabernet Franc and White Muscat.
The wines available include: Semillon 2004, Sauvignon Blanc 2006, Chardonnay 2005, Cabernet 2002, Durif 2005, Tempranillo 2005, Barbera 2006, Shiraz 2004, Cabernet Merlot 2004, Reserve Shiraz 2003, Reserve Cabernet 2004, Semillon/Sav/Blanc, and Mediterranean Red.
The semi-sweet wines include Muscadean and Rosett whilst Liqueur Muscat made from fifty year old vines - and Nature’s Gold belong to the estate’s fortified wines range, the latter being a sweet white Muscat. Finally there is the Vintage Port, the first produced by the estate and made from the oldest Shiraz vines in the vineyard.
Bookings must be made for visits to the estate’s cafe which is open for lunch with tour groups welcome.
