About Robinsons Family Vineyards

Situated on the southern side of Stanthorpe is Robinson’s Family Vineyard.  The vineyards themselves are located on an isolated ridge and are planted in a North to South direction at an elevation anywhere between 700 metres and 800 metres.

John and Heather Robinson established the vineyard in 1969 and complemented the plantings of Shiraz with other premium grapes – Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Gamay Beaujolais, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Noir.

Initially, the road the property is situated on was unnamed and so John called it “Lyra Church Road” because of its close proximity to Lyra Church.  This name was lost to the past when the council finally named it Curtin Road, after a gentleman named Curtin who lived at the end of the road.  All roads in this region are named after the family who lived at the end of them.  However, the name of Lyra Church Road lives on as this is the name of the Robinson’s “lifestyle range of wines.”

John developed his passion for wine when he worked in Europe and in 1971 he teamed up with Max Lake at Lake’s Folly to produce a vintage.  In 1974, John produced his own wine.

Heather, meanwhile, comes from a winemaking background – the Barossa Valley is the location of Saltram’s Winery, which was established in 1859 by her family.

The wines include: 2005 Unwooded Chardonnay, 2005 Chardonnay, 2005 Merlot, 2005 Shiraz, 2005 Shiraz Cabernet, Lyra Church Road Classic, Lyra Church Road Nouveau, Lyra Church Road Late Harvest and 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon.

The boutique winery is open from Saturday to Wednesday, from 10am to 5pm although during the school holidays opening is extended to seven days a week.

The wines are also available at Noosa Cellar Door and Eumundi Markets.
