About Summit Estate Wines
Located at Thulimbah, north of Stanthorpe, are the boutique vineyards of Summit Estate, nestled amongst the fruit and apple orchards of the Granite Belt.
In 1997, wine enthusiasts Tim Galligan, Martin Millard and Bill Ryan bought the twenty-acre property. Shiraz, Zinfandel, Malbec, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Granache were established on two acres of vineyard in late 1997 in a trial to determine which grapes were most suited to the climate at Summit Estate.
Five acres were planted in 2000 and included Verdelho, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Shiraz and Tempranillo.
In 2003, three more acres were planted and a further ten acres of an existing local vineyard have been leased to help keep up with the ever increasing demand for Summit Estate wines.
A unique cellar door, wine education centre and art gallery were developed from a fruit and vegetable packing shed. Emphasising Queensland wines, the cellar door caters for over one hundred visitors.
The wines include: 2004 Sparkling Chardonnay/Pinot Noir, 2005 Chardonnay, 2005 Marsanne, 2005 Classic White, 2005 Verdelho, the Summit Estate Star Jasmine and Stanthorpe Wine Company Emily Rosé both sweet style wines, Summit Estate Amapola Roja a sweet style red, 2003 Shiraz, 2004 Shiraz Cabernet, 2004 Merlot Cabernet, 2005 Merlot, 2004 ‘Aphrodite’ Shiraz Pinot, 2004 Cabernet Merlot Shiraz, 2003 Reserve Cabernet Merlot. 2005 Malbec Single Vineyard, 2005 Tempranillo Single Vineyard, 2005 Petit Verdot Single Vineyard.
The fortified range consists of Preston Peak Golden Gleam, Liqueur Muscat, Premium Tawny Port and a 2003 Vintage Port.
The cellar door offers tour groups their own tasting room and host for free wine tastings. All sessions include Summit Estate’s “famous bush poetry” and a walk in the vineyard with the viticulturist.
It is appreciated if groups book in advance and the Estate will open at any time to accommodate group needs.
