About Symphony Hill Wines
Situated in the Ballandean highlands of Queensland’s Granite Belt is the family owned boutique winery, Symphony Hill Wines. With an elevation of over 1000 metres, the climate is unmatched anywhere else in Australia.
Ewen and Elissa Macpherson bought the old table grape and orchard property in 1996 and developed the vineyard to a high standard in partnership with Bob and Jill Macpherson, Ewen’s parents. They now live on the vineyard enjoying retirement. In fact, Symphony Hill Wines is such a family-oriented venture that, at one time, four generations of the family lived there!
The speciality of Symphony Hill is high quality wines made from grapes grown on the estate. These are Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Verdelho, Chardonnay and Viognier.
Symphony Hill also keeps itself at the forefront of wine making by carefully examining the latest theories in viticulture and determining whether they would be beneficial to the vineyard.
This led to a project started in July 2002 that saw the establishment of a vineyard block consisting of over fifty varieties of grape. These include mainstream grapes such as Chardonnay, Riesling and Grenache but also much lesser known varieties such as Mondeuse, Picpoul and Tennat. Professional wine tasters will judge the potential of these wines. There will also be a public tasting. Any interested tasters should contact the winery for further details.
The wines include: Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2005, Reserve Verdelho 2005, Reserve Verdelho 2006, 2004 Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon “DANYING”, Muscat (Moscato Paradiso) 2003, Shiraz 2005, Rosé 2006, Reserve Pinot Noir 2003, White Serenade 2006 and Red Serenade 2006.
Symphony Hill offers free group wine tastings either in the vineyard or their barrel room. They are able to cater for groups of up to twenty-five and ask only that a few days’ notice are given for such a visit.
