About Tobin Wines
Situated some 830 metres above sea level in the heart of the Granite Belt is the small boutique winery, Tobin Wines.
Established in 1929, the vineyard can boast the oldest Semillon and Shiraz vines in the Granite Belt. With the passing of time, the range of varieties has expanded and now includes Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Verdelho.
Until the 1960s, the vineyard was run by the Costanzo family who in turn were succeeded by the Ricca family until the year 2000. Both families excelled in making wine from their table grapes, which was traditionally sold in bulk.
The Tobins bought the vineyard having always had a passion for both wine and wine making. This desire was born in the Hunter Valley in the late 1960s, with a particular fondness for Shiraz and Semillon. Thus, with its special blend of location and the Semillon and Shiraz vines, the vineyard was an ideal place for the Tobins to fulfil their ambition to make unique, hand-crafted wines.
All the wines from the vineyard are Single Vineyard wines made only with grapes grown on the Tobins’ vineyard. Each wine is produced in relatively small quantities and the vines are intensively managed, ensuring that only fruit of the highest quality is produced. Neither the red or white wines rely on oak for their flavours, but instead the intense fruit flavours are a product of the Tobins’ “fruit driven wines.”
The wines include: 2006 Tempranillo, 2006 Max Shiraz, 2004 Max Shiraz, 2006 Elliot Merlot, 2005 Elliot Merlot, 2006 Luella Plum Cabernet, 2007 Charlotte Rosé, 2006 Isabella Semillon,
2007 Isabella Semillon, 2007 Lily Chardonnay, 2003 Tobin Shiraz, 2007 Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc, 2006 Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc, 2006 Chardonnay, 2003 Tobin Sweet White and Tobin Liqueur Muscat NV.
