About Kingsley Grove Estate

Kingsley Grove Estate is located on Stuart Valley Drive, Kingaroy, in the South Burnett Region of Queensland, which is about 21/2 hour’s drive from Brisbane.

Even though Kingaroy is usually associated with growing peanuts and navel beans, wine has in fact been grown in this area since the early 1900s, perhaps even earlier. Today the region is fast becoming Queensland’s most popular wine area.

The vineyard was established in 1998 and sits at around 430 metres above sea level. The first of the eight variety of vines were planted and they were up and running. There are now 8.7 hectares under vine and all the varieties are doing exceptionally well.

They built the winery in 2001 and then expanded in 2003. Now all their wine is produced here, which gives the owners, Michael and Patricia Berry, complete control of all the processes that go into the making of their wonderful wines. By having their own winery on site it also keeps the processing time down to a minimum, by not having to transport the grapes to other wineries; thus making sure that the freshly-picked grapes are processed at their peak.

Michael and Patricia both completed viticulture studies at Melbourne University. It was during this time that they developed the concept of their vineyard and winery.

The vines are matched to the variety and location in the vineyard when they are planted. Some are planted and others are grafted. They use a Vertical Shoot Positioning trellis system and the rows are three metres wide, with the vines at two-metre spaces. Michael and Patricia believe that this viticultural system is the very best for their climate, as well as for the ease of vine management and later for harvesting the grapes.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Chambourcin, Chardonnay, Merlot, Sangiovese, Semillon, Shiraz and Verdelho are the great wines available at their Cellar Door.
