About Tawonga Vineyard
The Tawonga Vineyard is located on Drummond Street, Tawonga, Victoria. It is situated in the Kiewa Valley, overlooking Mount Bogong and is a part of the Alpine Valleys Wine Region.
It was in 1993 that the winery first began testing with small quantities of wine and, having found that the quality was as high as they had hoped, they produced their first commercial wine in 1994. The quality of their subsequent wines was as good, or even better; so much so that they have won many awards at several prestigious wine shows.
The terroir of the region is perfectly suited to the growing of top quality grapes. Being situated in a cool-climate area allows the grapes to ripen slowly and thus enhance the flavours and complexities.
The proprietors’ aim is to continue to create full-flavoured, premium wines that reflect the subtle nuances of the region, while being affordable for all budgets. Wine lovers should be aware that stocks at the Tawonga Vineyard are limited, since they usually make only small batches of wine from their premium grade fruit. They believe in quality before quantity. Therefore, it would be wise to keep your eyes on this site for news of new releases in order to avoid the disappointment of missing out on such great deals.
John Adams, who has a Wine Science Degree graduate of Charles Sturt University, is their winemaker. He has a great deal of experience both in Australia and in France. He makes the wines from grapes grown in their cool-climate sections the Kiewa and King Valleys.
They sell the majority of their wine directly to the customer through their web site and freighted door-to-door throughout Australia. They also have Cellar Door tastings and sales by appointment. A quick phone call is sufficient, just to make sure that they are free to see you.
Chambourcin, Marsanne, Merlot, Durif, Saperavi, Sangiovese, Shiraz, Verdelho and Viognier are the wines available on their web site and at their Cellar Door.
