About David Traeger Wines
Dromana Estate was established in 1982 and helped put the Mornington Peninsula’s name on the wine map of Australia. It is a leader in making such great wines as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and they were one of the first vineyards to bring to the world’s attention the growing qualities of this cool climate region. They specialise in a range of classic French varietals.
Dromana Estate has been the standard for over twenty-five years in the Mornington Peninsula. They believe in a low yield and high quality output and their philosophy has certainly been borne out. Their range of wines, made by, Duncan Buchanan, are superb examples of wines that have all the regional and varietal characteristics.
Their Reserves are produced in limited quantities only and even then in exceptional years and their 2004 vintage is a perfect illustration of this. It is a vintage to be remembered as being of exceptional quality.
It was in 1978 that David Traeger established his winery at Nagambie Lakes in central Victoria and focused on just two varieties: Shiraz and Verdelho. David uses traditional methods in the making of his elegant and distinctive wines. The Mornington Estate range constitutes a new wave of winemaking on the Mornington Peninsula, with their wines being clean and invigorating, displaying distinctive varietal and regional characteristics, all at affordable prices.
Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the classic varieties that they produce at Dromana Estate, wines that are synonymous with the region. But, for the last ten years, they have experimented with Italian varietals in producing their ‘i’ range, which represents their very modern and innovative thinking in winemaking.
They take great care in their selection of regions and varieties in creating their wines and are able to bring out the very best qualities with Italian vines planted in Australian soils.
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Shiraz and Verdelho are the varieties available at their Cellar Door.
