About Date Brothers Wines

Date Brothers Wines, funnily enough, is run by the Date Brothers, Roy, Barry and Tony. Their property was originally used for dry land cereal growing, but they changed course and decided that viticulture was the next challenge. With years of farming experience between them and their ‘have a go’ attitude, they were well equipped to take on this new venture.

They bought forty hectares of land on the outskirts of the Swan Hill irrigation area from a neighbour in 1997 and prepared the area over the next few years. They also added another twenty hectares, making the whole now sixty hectares. The vines they planted were Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Durif.

Under normal circumstances Durif grapes are not usually grown in the Swan Hill area, but these have thrived and are excellent in quality. Chardonnay vines are the next varietal on the cards, as they see a need for white wine in the region.

Their sister, Kerry, also digs in and helps out in all the operations in the vineyard, she also keeps the boys on their toes. Fiona Pye, a dear friend, takes care of the marketing and promotes their wines through local events, including race meetings and the Big Note Festival; state events, such as the Melbourne Boat Show. Their combined efforts have helped put Date Brothers Wines on the map, as it were, and their wines are gaining happy consumers rapidly.

Fiona recently put out a brochure to advertise the availability of their wonderful wines. If you would like a copy, contact them on their web page for more details.

The confidence is high at Date Brothers Wines, and they have every reason to feel this way. Their wines keep getting better and better and they do handsomely at major wine shows, such as the Australian Inland Wine Show, hosted in Swan Hill in October.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Durif, Riesling and Shiraz are available on their web site.
