About Ducketts Mill Wines

Ducketts Mill Wines is located on Scotsdale Road, Denmark, Western Australia. It is owned and operated by Ross and Dallas Lewis and their sons, Matt and Ben.  They chose this site, which is fast becoming famous, for its wonderful grape-growing qualities and rich soils.

It is a cool-climate region, which means that the grapes ripen slowly and strengthen the flavours. Ross and Dallas saw that the region was ideal for the growing of top quality grapes and in 1996 they established the vineyard.

At first, the grapes they harvested were sent to other wineries, but eventually they were persuaded to start making wines for their own label. Their first release under the Ducketts Mill Wines label came in 2004 and was an instant success. They took out two awards for their 2004 Late Harvest Riesling and 2004 Riesling and a silver and bronze at the 2004 Qantas Mount Barker Wine Show.

The vineyard has twenty acres planted to vine, with more plantings in train for the future. With the success they have already enjoyed, it seems certain that any expansion can only bring them more.

The Lewis family also run Denmark Farmhouse Cheese, which is the sole cheese factory in Western Australia's Great Southern region. Their cheeses are becoming very well known and visitors to their Cellar Door always make a beeline for the cheeses on sale. They go great with the terrific wines on offer for sampling and purchase.

The cheeses are hand made on the estate from local milk. They also produce lovely preserves, fudge to drool over and delicious ice cream. The Cellar Door has wheelchair access.

Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Ruby Cabernet, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Shiraz are available at their Cellar door. So, why not take a trip out to this great vineyard and winery and have yourselves a wonderful time?
