About Ferngrove
The Ferngrove vineyard is located on Ferngrove Road, Frankland, Western Australia. It was established as a vineyard in 1998 by Murray Burton, whose family had been dairy farmers for ninety years. He put all his eggs into one basket or all his milk into one pail and mortgaged the farm in 1996 to buy the land at Frankland River, which is some 360 kilometres south of Perth.
He knew that the soils were rich and fertile, the environment untouched, the climate temperate and very much reminiscent of the Mediterranean climate. It was perfect for the growing of quality grapes. The decision to switch to grape growing soon paid off. The vines flourished and so they bought more land nearby. This was the catalyst in taking the decision to establish Ferngrove Vineyard in 1998.
Success breeds success, and so, in 1999, they opened their own winery in time for their first vintage in 2000. It is a very modern, tourist-friendly establishment with very high standards in design and use of technology. It even has a lookout tower, where visitors can gasp at the striking scenery and delightful views of the Stirling Ranges.
The commitment to quality at Ferngrove has earned them a well-deserved reputation as producers of premium Frankland River wines. Their cool-climate wines, made from their own fruit, have given them success, not only in Australia, but also in many overseas countries, too.
In 2006, Ferngrove won a bucket-load of awards in fourteen shows on the Australian wine show circuit, including six trophies and seventy-four medals. James Halliday rated Ferngrove's winery 5 stars three years in a row. This is yet another indicator of the great success of their endeavour.
Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Malbec, Merlot, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Shiraz and Verdelho are all available at their Cellar Door. Take a trip out to this wonderful vineyard and enjoy their great wines while you drink in the marvellous views.
