About Trevelen Farm Wines
Trevelen Farm Wines are situated on Weir Road (off Albany Highway), Cranbrook, Western Australia. It is a part of the Great Southern Wine Region and even though it has warm to hot summers and cool to cold winters, the region is classified as a cool-climate area. They are producers of excellent wines.
The vineyard lies on well-drained soils, which are ideal for the growing of their Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz vines. To augment their portfolio of wines, they also source Merlot, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc grapes from a noted vineyard in the Frankland River Sub-region.
From modest beginning, with a small section planted to vines, they have blossomed into one of the elite Great Southern labels. The vineyard was just a small part of a 3,160-acre farming operation, but now is a substantial part of the overall business. Their son, Ben, has taken over the farming of the estate, which leaves John and Katie free to carry on the development of the Trevelen Farm vineyard.
Their winemaker is James Kellie, who used to be with Howard Park, Denmark, built a modern 300 tonne winery in 2004 at Harewood Estate on Scotsdale Road, Denmark. It is he who works his magic on the very high quality fruit that he receives from Trevelen Farm.
It is a mark, not only of the quality of the fruit, but also of the dedication of John and Katie that every vintage and all varieties have received awards for their excellence.
Their Cellar Door is a delight to visit. The scenic views of the Stirling Ranges alone are breath-taking. It has a lovely garden, featuring roses, deciduous trees, native and exotic plants. Visitors to the Cellar Door are welcome to stroll through the garden and take in the relaxing atmosphere, while they sip a delightful wine or two.
Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz are the varieties available at their Cellar door.
