About West Cape Howe Wines

West Cape Howe Wines can be found on the South Coast Highway, Denmark, Western Australia. The vineyard is part of the Great Southern wine region, which is considered to be a cool-climate area. Cool-climate areas generally mean that the grapes ripen slowly, which also means that the flavour is enhanced and the colour deepened.

The estate at West Cape Howe is located at one of the most southerly points of Western Australia and lies at an altitude of around 250 metres above sea level. The great landmark is the inspiration for the name of the vineyard.

The proprietors believe that premium wine only comes from top quality grapes and to ensure that they spend many months before the harvest monitoring the grapes in all their stages of growth. They also visit many other vineyards in the Great Southern region to keep abreast of all the progress of the vines in the area. Then, at vintage time, only the best parcels of fruit are chosen to make the West Cape Howe wines.

They take special care in sourcing their fruit. They choose particular vineyards and even particular blocks. This is one of the secrets of their success.

They do, however, use their own fruit for the major part of the production. It is the Landsdale Vineyard which supplies most of the fruit. This vineyard, near Mount Barker, was first planted in 1989 and has some of the oldest vines in the Great Southern region. They have around eighty hectares planted to vine. The fruit they source from other vineyards are located in Albany, Bridgetown, Boyup Brook and Denmark; all quality regions in themselves.

Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Shiraz, Tempranillo and Viognier are the wonderful wines available at their Cellar Door. Why not take a trip out to this picturesque vineyard on the beautiful West Cape Howe coast.
