About Xabregas Wines

Xabregas Wines is located on Spencer Road, Narrikup, Western Australia. It is owned by Terry Hogan and Eve Broadley, both stockbrokers who shared a dream of creating their own wines in the Great Southern wine region of Western Australia.

They bought the property in 1996 after having read John Gladstone’s book ‘Viticulture and Environment’, which suggested that ‘the best vineyard growing environments of the Great Southern lie to the south of Mount Barker and Muirs Highway.’ It also helped that they both loved the Mt Barker region for its spectacular beauty and its fresh, clean air.

Today, the Xabregas estate has three vineyards, ten kilometres south of Mount Barker, with a total of 140 hectares planted to vine. The vineyards are: Fig Tree Lane, The Spencer Vineyard and the Narrikup Vineyard.

They have planted Chardonnay, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc in the great white varieties and Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz in the classic reds. Each of the vineyards supplies fruit to many of the top wineries in Western Australia, including: Howard Park, Houghtons, Forest Hill and Harewood; which gives a clear indication of the quality of the fruit grown on the Xabregas vineyards.

With Doctor Di Miller of The Vintage Wineworx as their winemaker, they have built a reputation for producing the highest quality wines and have won numerous medals and awards at prestigious wine shows, both in Australia and internationally, including Gold at the International Wine and Spirit Competition 2007 in London, the Qantas Wine Show of Western Australia and the New Zealand International Wine Show 2007.

For a ‘small vineyard’, this is quite a remarkable achievement in the highly competitive field of wine production. Terry and Eve deserve all the accolades for their success. They have toiled many back-breaking hours to bring the vineyard up to the standard that they envisaged back in the day.

Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz are available at their Cellar Door.
