About Donnelly River Wines

Donnelly River Wines, owned and operated by the Borrello Family, can be found on Donnelly River Bridge, Vasse Highway, Pemberton, Western Australia.

They are producers of fine quality, award-winning wines and are noted for their wines innovation in the industry.

Donnelly River Wines, the first winery to be established in the region, was founded in 1985 and lies around thirty-six kilometres from Pemberton. The vineyard has the Donnelly River and National Park as its borders and is about 350 kilometres south of Perth.

The climate of the region is very similar to that of the Mediterranean and the land has rich soils and good drainage. The terroir is just right for the production quality grapes that display soft aromas and flavours.

Blair Meiklejohn is the winemaker at Donnelly River Wines, indeed, one of its pioneers. He has done much research on balancing flavours to produce excellent wines that reflect the unique qualities of the region.

Their Cellar Door is a tourist magnet because of its location. The views are magnificent, the décor rustic and relaxed and their great wines are on sale seven days a week all year round.

The Donnelly River Wines property has a 1.7km of river frontage, from which some of its irrigation is drawn. The proprietors and their team are determined to operate the vineyard in an ecologically sustainable manner and do all in their power to work with Nature.

The vines are planted in the rich river flats and the surrounding hills of loose loam, which the vines seem to love. The soils in these areas semi-fertile and are a mix of gravelly loams, sandy loams, or a deep red soil called ‘Karri Loam’.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Shiraz are the superb varieties available at their Cellar Door.
