About Avalon Wines
With its name taken straight for the legend of King Arthur, the boutique winery of Avalon Wines can be found just 35 minutes from Perth city centre, nestled on the south facing gravelly slopes of the Darling Scarp.
In 1987 a local judge and his family planted the original vines. Now, Avalon is owned by Hilton and Nicola Butler who were attracted by the wonderful Western Australian countryside. Along with their three sons, they decide it was time to sample the ‘good life’ and the start of 2004.
Over the years, the wines have been awarded many medals, including a Gold medal for the 1995 Chardonnay. There was not only a Gold Medal but also Best Red and Best Wine of the Show awards for their 1999 Cabernet Merlot at the Perth Hills Wine Show.
Added to this is the silver medal won by their 2001 Cabernet Merlot at the 2002 Perth Royal Wine Show. The 2002 Cabernet Merlot received a gold medal and first in its class at the Cowra Wine Show. All these awards bear testimony to the consistent quality on offer from Avalon.
The winery has also launched a new logo to coincide with the release of its latest wines. It remains true to the theme of the knight on horseback and will be seen across all their advertising.
The wines include: 2004 Premium Reserve Cabernet Merlot, an elegant, full-bodied wine; 2004 Classic Dry White, blended from Chenin, Chardonnay and Verdelho; 2005 Chardonnay, with light citrus flavours and 2005 Semillon, a soft-bodied red with honey and candied fruits showing through.
The cellar door opens every Sunday from 11am to 5pm and offers treetop views across the Darling Scarp.
