About Briery Estate

Approximately 85 kilometres North-East of Perth is The Briery Estate.  It was established in 1994 by Christine Smart and Ron Waterhouse.  Having lived their formative years in rural England, the of the picturesque Perth Hills proved to be an immediate attraction for them as they sought to find a country lifestyle once more after being in a city environment.

The story began in 1920 when Bertram and Clara Gray bought the 500 acre property known as Bonza Vue.  They planted the land with vines and citrus and then, in 1932, a dwelling was built on the site using timber and stone sourced from the adjoining paddocks.

Ron and Christine met in 1989 before moving to the countryside where they would set up a small vineyard and winery before retiring.  Initially, three acres of citrus were removed from the land and a market garden was planted to “sweeten” the soil.  Ten acres of vine were leased and work began on the winery.

In 1996, against seemingly insurmountable odds – both Ron and Christine suffered serious injuries in a car crash – they produced their first saleable and gold medal wine.

Briery Estate has a licensed picnic area and an on-site gas-fired barbecue, which is freely available.  This offers the opportunity for visitors to taste the wines over a relaxed lunch.

The wines include: 2007 Chenin Blanc, 2007 Dry Verdelho, 2005/6 Tokay - Fermint Liqueur, 2006 Shiraz, 2005 First Furmint, 2004 Grenache Dry, 2004 Christina Rose, 2004 Shiraz Rose, 2004 Muscat Liqueur, 2001 Cabernet, 2001 Cabernet Shiraz Merlot, 2000 Cabernet Shiraz, 1997 Liqueur Muscat and 1997 Solaro Tawny Port.

Customers are invited to contact Christine or Ron to arrange a wine-tasting session.  It is also worth noting that on the last Sunday of every month, the Estate hosts a “jam session, singalong, sausage sizzle…”
