About Ambrook Wines
Located on West Swan Road, Caversham on the banks of the Swan River lies the small, family-owned winery known as Ambrook Wines. It has rich, vibrant soils and lots of sunshine, which help produce grapes of the very best quality.
The Amonini family, originally from northern Italy, have many generations of experience in winemaking and have continued this fine tradition in Australia.
It was Mickele Amonini who established Ambrook wines in 1998, after re-planting George Street property in 1990. He has taken a fresh approach to winemaking and has already found success by winning awards for his wines.
They bought the West Swan Road property at Caversham in 2004 and built a new Cellar Door in 2006. Now all the cellar sales are conducted at this venue. The Caversham vineyard had old vines of had Grenache and Muscat grapes that were planted in 1945 and they decided to keep them in use.
The Swan Valley vineyard lies on undulating hills, a half-hour out of Perth. The region is a tourist Mecca and a great place to go for a lazy lunch, or just a pleasant day out. Of course, sampling some of the wines on offer might make the day even more enjoyable.
Mickele Amonini’s creed is that ‘half of winemaking is in the growing of the grapes.’ His viticultural techniques and his endless care all play a part in making sure that when harvest time arrives, he knows that the grapes have had the best possible attention.
He knows that winemaking is far more than just crushing grapes. It is the care and preparation that goes into the growing of the grapes that is critical in the production of great wine. It is knowing the terroir, the climate, the soils and all that goes into the growing process that makes for the production of superior grapes.
Cabernet Sauvignon, Chenin Blanc, Grenache, Merlot, Muscat Gordo Blanco, Vermentino, Pinot Gris, Sangiovese, Semillon, Shiraz and Verdelho are all available at their Cellar Door.
