About John Kosovich Wines

John Kosovich Wines, located on Memorial Avenue, Baskerville in the Swan district of Western Australia, was established in 1922 as Westfield Wines until 2003. It was changed to John Kosovich Wines to honour John when he turned fifty. It is the third oldest winery in the Swan Valley and is just thirty minutes from Perth.

John Kosovich was awarded the Order of Australia medal for his contribution to the wine industry in 1995. He also was awarded the prestigious Jack Mann Medal for services to the Western Australian wine industry and later in that year was named as Best West Australian Small Producer at the Perth Royal Wine Show.

Their aim at John Kosovich Wines is to maintain the unique boutique qualities of the winery by producing small quantities of exceptional, full flavoured elegant wines that display all the regional styles of the Swan Valley and Pemberton regions of Western Australia. Their famous Cabernets, Chardonnays and Liqueur wines are the perfect example of their commitment and vision.

They have a happy mix of winemaking techniques, embracing both old and new methods. John does not like to overuse oak barrels in the maturation process, as he believes that to do so would take away something from the fine balance and distinct flavours that he achieves in the soft, dry wines. The wines are all made and bottled on the vineyard.

John’s father, Lilo, used a broad axe to cut the seven-metre beam that spans the underground cellar and still hangs from that beam today. The underground cellar is one of only two original underground cellars in the Swan Valley today and was dug out by hand in 1922. It plays a very important part in the winemaking process.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Semillon, Shiraz and Verdelho are the great wines available at their Cellar Door.
